Fantastic day tasting some exceptional wines with some wonderful Texan clients. L’Evangile 2006 had truffle elements. Angelus 2011 has great class and distinction. Gazin 2017 is silky and smooth. Whilst Cheval Blanc 2012 and Ausone 2011 at lunch were incredible wines. I nailed the Cheval Blanc 2012 (served blind) and it leapt out of the glass. A beautifully textured wine. Ausone 2011 tastes younger than the CB but revealed its layers and class over an hour. This wine has incredible vitality and style. A busy day tasting some spectacular wines at Farr Vintners very airy and bright tasting room overlooking the River Thames in Battersea, London. A great group of highly knowledgeable, serious but also great fun people. Many thanks to all the team at Farr Vintners.

Sauternes 2010s also looking good. The usual culprits are on form, Fargues, La Tour Blanche, Suduiraut, Rieussec, Guiraud, Climens, Coutet and Yquem were all delicious today. My notes are full of orange rind, lemon pith, ripe limes, pineapple chunks, apricots, toasty, baked fruits as well as wild honey, herbs and marmalade.

Such joy to re taste Chateau Pichon Baron 2010 blind against other 2010 top Pauillac. I have loved Pichon Baron from the first time I tasted it during April 2011 Primeur barrel tastings. Great to track it over its evolution. A truly sensational wine.

Fascinating to taste these two beauties today whilst visiting the Chateaux. Haut Brion 2011 is 35% Merlot, 46% Cab Sauv, 19% Cab Franc. Whilst Mouton 2011 is 90% Cab Sauv, 7% Merlot and 3% Cab Franc. HB ‘11 is classy, elegant, slightly evolved with great distinction and class. Mouton ‘11 has that wonderful unique toasty, slight caramel rich earthy core, but is tasting very youthful with a string full tannic backbone. Both wines are excellent but in totally different styles. #bellawinetours #hautbrion #moutonrothschild #firstgrowthbordeaux #2011bordeaux

What a sensational wine. Hermitage La Chapelle 1990, Jaboulet. Thank you Matthew. All earthy Rhône evolved funk, but still pert fruit. Absolutely delicious.
